I love the French for being the most outspoken people among the European countries and having a ton of good initiatives going on. But don’t idolize them, most of their population is just as braindead and complacent as the rest of us Europeans, and their general unwillingness to speak English like most other Europeans hinders the spreading of their radical initiatives in the rest of Europe. (Sorry for the blatant generalizing. Not every French, not every European, …)

Okay but which nation isn’t?

I find nations problematic because they are units that are too large and therefore are controlled by groups not easily overseen and almost impossible to make accountable by the population.

The USA is not only a nation but an empire, which is like a nation with an integrated, violently imposed pyramid scheme.

If only we could find a way to organize into independent smaller units that federate into larger units and remain tolerant of the differences of the smaller units. Ironically that is what the USA seems to have attempted to do with their united states thing?

Great to hear! I guess others who are not in leadership roles would like to hear more about guys like you, and would like to know that some of you are also taking the time to teach other leaders take a different approach to work management and leadership culture.

I’m curious what would be your reply to this? Do you think a society can regulate or educate this problem away?

Drawing. I set myself the strict rule to be completely unambitious about my coloured pencil drawings. I do them only for myself, and the enjoyment while doing it is the main purpose. So sometimes I just draw some squiggles and then I fill them with colours, one layer over another. One drawing can take weeks, I do a bit every evening and it is so relaxing. Now with time they start looking really neat as a cool side effect, so I have been thinking about framing them.

First we need more info, for example: What activities do you enjoy? Would you rather have a job/career that pays for your hobbies, or a job/career that fulfills you? What would ‘normal’ or ‘high’ achievement look in your opinion?

My cat is called Wigglebutt Fuzzypants, cause it describes her well. She has more hair than she can manage.

Believe it or not, that was how it worked. The advantage of this was that it guaranteed that you only invested time in things you were really passionate about.

I was leftie before I was techie. If you don’t know anything around tech and computers you wouldn’t know what to do. Even as a fairly tech-adjacent professional it took me quite a while.

Then again, I only became a real leftie again after kicking all the corpos out of my computer.

Tech used to be (and still is) obscured by heavy gatekeeping. We who understand a little more like to joke about those who don’t, and I guess we’ll have to stop that if we really want to unite the left. Don’t ridicule, explain. The person might never have had a chance to learn the concept.

For speech to text I also found Speech Note (not to confuse with Speechnotes, some similar thing from a different team I believe)

I do think it’s a problem that doesn’t need solving, but would maybe some sort of instance integrator sites help keep the fediverse open and easily explorable?

I found KDE Simon, and Numen … I’ve only ever used a commercial product, Dragon Naturally Speaking, many years ago. It was used so I could speak instead of typing texts but it did have functions to assign commands as well - don’t think it worked on Linux though.

Be a member of the Brother-hood. I have a big black multifunction Brother printer, scanner (even fax, wtf!), and it works on both Linux and Windows. Bought four years ago. It just wants a quiet corner and a wifi connection. I think it’d even print from my Android phone if I tickled it a little, but can’t be arsed now. It’s happy with cheapo ink as well. It also cleans itself and has survived in a definitely-not-an-office environment. If it makes another year I’ll give it a pet name, it deserves one!
