Ach, well, a known method to create a nice discussion
I’m not familiar with slackware but why is specific kernel called generic, while generic one is not called generic? I’m puzzled
It’s just an old rant, some people can’t get over the fact systemd exists
What do you mean, “you people”?
If only nix wasn’t such a pain to read, with all the conveniences it has like automatically looking up variables in all of the places available.
I understand the thought, but it feels like a lot of things done to simplify writing the code makes it way harder to read, and nix’s design is decades old and it really shows
Also, there are sometimes issues with nix on macos, but I’m inclined to blame it on Apple
I don’t know, there really seems to be less Palestine news on Lemmy lately. Also, this likely depends on what sources one chooses to get the news.
I wouldn’t say that nobody cares, and most of the listed genocides do get attention now and then, it’s just too much for people, just as others said
“Maybe the real sabotage was the tech debt we made along the way!”
so I’m leaving a comment to find the post easier later
We used BigBlueButton in a team, even had someone connect it to SIP, I think
For the most part it just worked, a great product
It would’ve been funnier if Debian was Porsche, Lamborghini, or Ferrari:
I think there’s an assumption that kids are about 20 years younger than the one taking the pill, this will not always be true. In the US women’s median age for giving birth had hit 30 in 2022, I would expect that age is even higher in men.
So, if you’re 45 and your child is 15, after taking the pill you’ll be 25 which looks like an adult enough for a 15 year old
And given that this info is relatively freely available, one’s only protection is low probability of being chosen on random from a really long list of leaked accounts
Shit, that sounds like the opposite of what they (if you mean Bobbies) should do. But that’s the reality we’re in :(
Even if not, it will be much easier to remember who that is after the record gets forgotten: one can look up a person’s name in the internet and that works better with a full name
Except, if someone had the repo cloned before the purge, they would retain all of the information, wouldn’t they?
The internet was already present then. The Arch wiki though…
Well, I’ll just hope things are better now and give it a go
I remember back in the 2000s when I tried to isolate a problem this never worked out. Too vague, too little understanding of what’s what. If it wasn’t for the help of one more experienced user in our campus, I would’ve given up pretty soon.
I hope things are better now, as I haven’t been using Linux for quite some time and consider going back but this time there will be no one to ask
Also, I’ve already seen complaints about AI companies scraping everything ignoring robots.txt
And we would block the obedient and useful crawlers while doing no harm to malicious
Off the top of my head, I used to think that economic growth of a country equals wealth growth for its people and equals good leadership is steering the country policies.
Turns out that good leadership and economics are rather loosely correlated and also a large inertia allows bad leadership to reap what others saw
To be fair, I’m using Linux, MacOS with Darwin Nix for managing it, Windows, and I still am not sure what exactly is an operating system, what’s the role of kernel and all of the possible system software is. Well, I think kernel is for hardware abstraction, but other than that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
