Bluesky is a corporate hedge to delay the social network business from becoming not a business, it is headed by variously naive or disengenous tech people who believe they are creating the future when they are mercenaries for the past.

No, this is precisely the issue. Any leftist worth their salt can’t fucking stand conservatives and YET we will still protect their basic human rights and accept them into a collective society.

Conservatives on the other hand are perpetrating violence every single day against leftists and minorities they LOUDLY do not accept into a collective society. They deny abortions for women who are on the verge of death, they advocate for draconian health care policy that massively raises the suicide rates of trans kids because they hate trans kids and they believe deep down in their racism with an unshakable fervor that makes their meager spiritual practice of christianity look sad and pathetic in comparison.

It is far past the point of having a debate with rightwing conservatives, what is left is to intimidate them into shutting up, drowning out their voices and laughing at their tiny hateful visions of the universe.

The social fabric of the US is being ripped apart by conservative white men because they can’t handle how scary using pronouns is and frankly the solution is to activate everybody else, not humor these people yet again with another discussion they are going to approach in a fundamentally disengenous way.

Look I love lemmy/reddit style social networks and I don’t disagree with the shallow reasons for why twitter has a character limit but there are legitimate and interesting reasons for character limits to posts. Is it better? probably not but sometimes less is more.

Side note for anyone reading, if you have an android please get f-droid, the google play store is an apocalyptic shithole and is 100% untrustable for finding safe functional apps, even very simple ones like a flashlight app or basic image gallery browser.

It is honestly apalling and I don’t know how any google employees working on android get home from work at the end of the day and feel ok about the impact on the world of the thing they are working on.

The play store is an atrocious, embarassing failure that actively makes the life of anybody who interacts with it worse.

This assumes we have only one true self, and that only one version of our self is authentic, the rest must be masks constructed from cowardice and self deception…

I think not only does that way of seeing things constantly lead you on a wild goose chase through a never ending crowd of masks, it sets you up to cynically doubt the authenticity of every version of someone you meet which gets you nowhere towards understanding them.

I really want an open source alternative to squarehome, “minimalist” is the opposite of “text heavy” at least for my brain. I want simple colorful shapes with a flat foreground, no depth no wallpaper, just simple appealing shapes on square frames.

It isn’t robbery if the builders that built your house put hidden trap doors in it and periodically sneak in to steal things and take photos of your private life, it is just a normal, safe part of owning a home and keeping it secure!

I use Square Home and for my icons I use the Shimu Icon Pack. I jack up the icon size to fill the square home squares, turn off text and leave it at that. Simple square shapes (why does everyone lovvvveee rounded???) with clean and colorful pastel colors, just the way I like it!

I don’t know, I was originally a big windows phone fan because I loved how minimal and clean the UI is. I still still think the entire phone market has been going the wrong way ever since with 3d backgrounds, super high resolution wallpapers, lots of fiddly animations and text heavy interfaces which makes no sense, after the 1000th time looking at your home screen you are literally never reading any of the icon text?? You aren’t consciously perceiving a highly detailed background. So why have it? Do people really think that the way the human brain works is after the 1000th time looking at a familiar scene the brain’s visual perception literally reads the same damn tiny text over and over again? That would be an exhaustingly inefficient way for the brain to process the world.

Ughh I hate how android is either an apple cargo cult or somehow even worse.
