  • i primarily use lemmy these days, but still have to use a few other things.

I still browse reddit for this like episode discussion threads for amine and other tv. lemmy will have maybe 5 responses in the threads for the 3 biggest shows of a season. it’s just not there yet.

I’m also a videographer, in our modern age that means i NEED to be on Instagram, YouTube, and tiktok because those are the platforms everyone wants me to make things for. can’t know how to make things for a platform I don’t use, sadly. especially since “just make something good” doesn’t work on any of them. in fact making something that looks good is often more of a hinderence these days and it kills me.

i hate short form video. i hate every mainstream social media platform. i just want to make pretty videos and not have to deal with tiktok trends. I learned 10 ways to attach a lav mic secure and tidy in school. I must now hold the lav mic in my fingers because that’s what’s trendy and following the trends is the ONE thing that DEFINITELY works.

I hate what has come of my profession. at this point I’m just ready for the ai to take my job so i can blow my head off in peace.

  • because it feels off balance.

the level of the horizon is a key part of composition. it effects comfort, balance, and groundedness. when the horizon is not level it will feel disorienting, dizzy, or chaotic. yes, you can break compositional rules for artistic effect, but you need to learn the rules and why they matter before you can do so effectively. the example you posted below doesn’t really make your case. it’s not that great of a photo, rotated or not. to intentionally rotate the horizon to give it an uncomfortable or disorienting feeling is fine if that’s the goal hell, maybe it’s more to feel otherworldly or any other number of things you can derive from it. the point is that you need a reason and intent behind the unlevel horizon. what feeling were you trying to invoke by not having the ground beneath the feet of the viewer?

  • sure, but like 90% of the porn on there is just to funnel people into the creators only fans these days. this could be good for those users. if they offer better terms with a lower cut than only fans i could see it taking off. there’s no discoverablility on only fans. they basically have to advertise elsewhere. and no one wants to go to a whole different website to make a whole different account when they’re already mid jerk. additionally, not many people will go to a porn site to make an account if they aren’t already looking to get off. removing that barrier for people that already have payment info on Reddit could turn it into a 1 click transaction. something that people can impulse purchase with their horny brain before the real brain catches up. if this takes off well enough they could take a lot of only fans’ customer base.

i don’t really like it, but it makes some amount of sense. personally, i think the quality of the porn on Reddit has done down almost perfectly in line with the rise of only fans. this would only serve to make it worse. Internet porn was at its best when it wasn’t monetized and the people making it were doing it because they felt like it and it probably got them off. now it’s just a job for most of them. a job that they often get real sick of real quick when they realize the amount of work, organization, and maintenance it requires to actually be successful on the platform. people that just did it for the love of strangers seeing them have sex didn’t have those burdens and could just upload what they wanted when they wanted. i guess it’s just like any art. it’s better when it’s not commercialized.

on the other other hand, i do think only fans and the democratization of the porn industry has been good for creators. the porn industry was exploitative and very unhealthy for the actors. they often did meth and downed copious amounts of boner pills to make it through long shoot days with numerous angles and shots. but idk… i never liked that kind of studio porn anyway. it’s just annoying that the replacement for it, which i also don’t typically like has taken over so much of the amateur space.

shit sorry… this became about the porn industry as a whole… i have many opinions on it because I used to work in the paid porn industry on the broadcast maintenance side. but yeah, this Reddit thing could work out if they don’t completely fuck it up.

brother, 99% of users will never even consider installing their own os. the issue isn’t that Linux is hard to install, the issue is that pretty much anyone brave enough to even mess with their operating system is either already on Linux, a boomer, or trapped by professional software that isn’t available on Linux (that’s me, a videographer)

the only way Linux is breaking out of extreme obscurity is if it starts coming pre-installed on commercially available and desirable hardware. the steam deck did more for Linux in a single product launch than the entire decade of combined efforts before that. before the deck i would have said it was simply never going to happen, but who knows. maybe it’ll be up to eccentric billionaires that never went public with their companies to push the Linux future we all want.

by that same logic a use that sees content they don’t like on a community they do can block that user.

is there a problem with content being posted that doesn’t match communities right now? i haven’t noticed one. the biggest problem on this platform right now is lack of content. downvotes, or any tool for creating explicit negative social interaction or feedback can make a community more hostile and less inviting. right now i generally see almost no posts on any nsfw communities that should get downvotes that don’t just get taken care of by a moderator. right now we need to draw people in to posting content way way more than we need better tools to organize it.

  • there just isn’t the money in that kind of product anymore. studio porn in general isn’t doing great. especially among younger viewers.

I worked for hustler broadcast for a bit, so i can confidently say that you’re not wrong. we would still occasionally air some of those older more serious movies, but basically anything since 2000 has been more on the goofy side. that said, there are some genuinely funny ones out there. they aren’t very good as porn, but they were my favorites. like there was one where Trump and Kim jong un captured Hilary Clinton in North Korea and they all had sex. the trump and the Kim were terrible, but the Hilary genuinely kind of looked the part, if Hillary Clinton had massive fake boobs. there was an Obama one from 2008 that was incredibly racist. it basically had Obama coming into the White House and revealing that he was actually a big bad gangster rapper, or whatever, here to fuck all your white bitches. I think there were three of those.

honestly, there’s some high concept only fans out there if you’re willing to pay. I know of one couple that does a legit travel blog with travel sex interludes. you might also find enjoyment in erotic literature if you haven’t given that much of a shot. the Internet stuff of very different from the published stuff, maybe give them both a shot?

all of this kind of comes together to really get in the way of high concept studio porn. women with intelligence, self respect, talent, or real ambition don’t go into studio porn. it’s the toxic old way to get into porn. anyone that might have been good enough to actually perform well in those movies either goes for softcore stuff that they can claim isn’t porn, or will self start on onlyfans. honestly, i bet we’ll start to see more of that kind of content come out of the new porn media world. these days we’re seeing more and more collectives and small companies operate through onlyfans. for better and worse. an optimistic take from someone that has worked on the back end of that industry for you is that these companies might be perfect for that. especially the ones that operate more like streamer houses. where it’s just a co-op of creators and maybe a little suuport staff or a manager. that’s the kind of situation i think we’ll start seeing low budget high concept porn with better production than it used to have because it’s easier to be better for cheaper these days.
