  • That hardware inputs can be faked is part of my reasoning here because there would be transparency of the source of footage.

If a reputable journalists fake their own footage and it would be found out their credibility would be gone.

If they often rely on borrowing footage and don’t fact check it. Credibility will degrade as well.

Journalist media that does their work and only uses credible sources will thrive.

My solution isn’t about who or how signature gets created but how ordinary people can check for themselves where a clip within footage originates from.

I am fine with inventing a new system that does this and call it something else than blockchain. But my understanding is that it does pretty much provide this functionality in a robust manner.

Also typing these comments on the go caused me to lose something dear to me on public transport. I am very sad now and probably wont engage further.

  • For the longest time now, from before AI, before NFT was a thing i had an idea to incorporating blockchain tech into real life media footage to combat the rise of misinformation.

The metadata, original author would be stored on this chain the moment footage is recorded. The biggest challenge is that this means the devices themselves need to be connected.

Adoption would be slow but i imagined news and official channels make use of this tech first. Eventually all footage outside of this will be seen as not trustworthy

Then NFTBros came along and people have shit on this idea ever since. Some days i feel that was a conspiracy to ruim out perception of potential but more likely humans where just greedy.

I still believe this could work. Detailed example below:

The system works with a fair amount of transparency, verifiable digital signatures for recording devices and their owners. Professional cameras and organizations would have publicly known IDs, while individuals could choose to remain pseudonymous authors but would need to build credibility over time.

Let’s say BBC records an interview. When viewers watch this content on any platform, they can access blockchain verification through an embedded interface (perhaps a small icon in the corner). This shows the complete chain of custody from recording to broadcast.

The system verifies content through computational comparisons. When a raw interview is edited into a final piece:

    • Each original clip has a unique blockchain signature
    • The final edited version’s signature can be compared against source material
    • Automated analysis shows what percentage of original footage matches
    • Modifications like color correction or audio adjustments are detected through signature differences
    • Additional elements like station logos or intro sequences have their own verified identifiers

  • Oh no worries, i am technical and autistic enough to setup systems that will serve my actual needs, regardless of economic/industry expectations.

Lutrius is great but i prefer Heroic game launcher, it can do the same but does also provides convenient acces to gog, epic and amazon licenses. I am only storing backup copies of games if i actually find it worth it to keep them, and i acquired a lot of mediocre titles over the years.

I also do still do use steam with little hate towards it there own implementation of proton is hard to beat in its reliance. I have yet to find a single game within my steam library that fails to work properly on arch.

Doesn’t stop me from working on my own alternative local game server parallel to it, Mhehehehe

Regardless i still feel like i should just be able to legally download some standalone offline installer from a website for later use. Especially for older games that used to have physical copies. whether or not my system can run that installer as it is, is morally irrelevant.

  • Yes.

What if i want to play the original portal game on a pc that cannot have internet? Steam does not allow me to download a straight installer, its a license with a long list of acceptable and non acceptable uses.

Don’t get me wrong i love valve and what they have done for gaming as a concept, as a linux i would not Be able to game as i do if it was not for proton.

But if i purchase a game i demand to own my copy.

I actually have a database where i keep pirate and cracked copies of games i own legit licenses because i refuse to have my rights limited simply because of the possibility of a victimless crime where checks note some big corp gets slightly less profit.

All games should be available standalone.

And while, am speaking my software opinions

If i buy a game license on one system it should cover that game all other platforms and systems. No more buying the same game twice just to play on different hardware. (This makes less sense if its a dedicated copy and not a license though)

All software from hardware that is no longer receiving support must be open sourced, i am looking at you near mint first gen ipad mini. I die before you end on a landfill in such good state.

  • Personally i am huge fan of owning my own data so i only have experience with self hosting from a home server.

You can probably find places pretty easily if you look for “cloud computing”, “cloud gpu”

I am pretty sure you don’t need licenses to start. Renting a last gen gpu may be expensive though (pay by the hour) this way of decentralized compute is becoming more and more common for developers but still has a while to go.

I recommend waiting a few more years and keeping an eye on how services like nvidia cloud gaming evolve and how mainstream working with virtual machines becomes for the average office worker.

Small portable home computing devices that you take with you and connect to a screen/ peripherals.

Local GPU and AI power servers in your garage or rented as an online servers.

I have been envisioning this for a while. My Desktop is in a state of “finished” i may build one more “gaming pc” after this but then i am hoping the future is ready.

  • “don’t enter any commands you see online without looking at it first. You can’t trust everyone”

This has somewhat become a staple idea of mine. People trust others online way too easily. Ai isn’t all that different in this but its more obvious to us that there is something to be scared about the uncanny valley.

What it tends to come down to is capacity for personal critical thinking which we should aim to foster more in future generations.

Maybe i assume too much that programmer-minded people naturally come with such skills for troubleshooting and will be capable of responsible ai interactions?
