Yeah, other than the conversation being one sided it was not too bad.
She did not turn up.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the newest thing you can legitimately historically re-enact?
8·8 days agoThere is no hard line, just what you yourself would feel silly reenacting.
So just brush the dust off that office beige PC and CRT monitor and have a lan party with your friends.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What non-profit organizations do you give money to? Why?
2·9 days agoI had to pay extra tax and labelled the payment “charity” in my bank app.
Jokes aside: Wikipedia. Half of what I know comes from there.
Agatha Christie. While not quite what I like there is no denying her success.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are statute of limitations in place for heinous crimes in some places?
2·9 days agoMany other reasons have been given. One more: let the archivists know when it’s time to throw away the paperwork and evidence.
Some crimes go unsolved with a bit of evidence collected, stamped, filed and stored somewhere.
At some point you’ll have to build a new building just to store the stuff if you never clear it out.
If you only keep the stuff for a few crimes such as murder the growth will be much more manageable.
Somewhat stale bread with butter, liver pate, cheese and some hot sauce.
It did the job of feeding me and getting rid of the leftover bread. The one before that was better with non stale bread.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the story behind your username and avatar?
8·12 days agoKeys on a qwerty keyboard. Just so that it’s different here from everywhere else.
The only reason I have a username and not an avatar is because I was forced to pick a username but not an avatar when registering.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•British people of Lemmy, what's up with the normalization of hatred/dehumanization towards working class people in the UK, considering that 60% of the UK population is considered to be working class?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think standard batteries like A, AA, AAA, C, and D, 9V etc will eventually become obsolete?
4·14 days agoThey seemed 12 times more expensive than the one use batteries. So only makes sense for stuff you use often.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think standard batteries like A, AA, AAA, C, and D, 9V etc will eventually become obsolete?
1·14 days agoBut if I only need one every other year I’ll have to charge the thing before I use it anyway. Besides should you not store rechargeable Li-batteries at 50-80%?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think standard batteries like A, AA, AAA, C, and D, 9V etc will eventually become obsolete?
261·14 days agoD and C are almost obsolete already.
AA and AAA I have bought things that require them this year so I doubt it will happen in our lifetime.
As for rechargeable it’s twice the effort to find the charger every two years instead of just using the one time batteries.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•None of this "what are you thankful for" shit today. What's something you hate?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people hate on cosmetic surgeries so much?
42·15 days agoDepends on who you ask. But I can see why it goes against the values of various groups.
I don’t hate it, your body your choice. In excess it looks silly but I don’t have to look.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How accepting is Lemmy to non-American, non-European and non-Canadian culture and content?
29·15 days agoIf I can’t read what’s in it I’ll just keep scrolling.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do you personally believe in your religion?
8·16 days agoI rejected christianity sometime as an early teen.
I don’t remember my full reasoning but I did not like the idea of getting up early Sunday morning to do the church stuff.
It never got replaced by anything.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unscientific opinion that you firmly hold?
81·17 days agoThe firmness of my opinions is proportional to how much they have been tested.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would making software with old hardware expectations work as a way to write lightweight software?
8·20 days agoExperienced SWEs get promoted into management and write very little code themselves.
Also all your customers have modern hardware and when the user has spent 15 minutes pecking on the keyboard to enter the data it does not matter that it took 10 seconds to load the program and 10 seconds to do the calculations instead of 1 seconds. You don’t get to charge more so you don’t tell your new SWEs to make it faster so you don’t get SWEs ecperienced in making things faster.
If you get a job and pay your taxes Scandinavian countries most people don’t mind.
