    Thanks! I was there twice when I was in the Navy, it’s the first stop when entering the Mediterranean. I adored the historical architecture with this yellow sandstone and the tight streets. Those balconies, hmm, not sure. My guess would be that they used to be open balconies but as people needed more space, they closed them and got a little more room?       Ah! Neat, thanks for finding that. And of course, reading the article my first thought was “yes, we have these fancy balconies, and it’s a new concept- but still older than your country”. LOL.
