How exactly is anyone being strong armed?
A single, privately run index site (which, to be clear, I have never even visited, let alone have any affiliation with) doesn’t want to publicise certain instances.
If anything, forcing them to index instances they don’t want to would be the strong-arming.

I already mentioned one movie in a reply (Arachnophobia), but another that really sticks out, and which I watched at an even younger age is The NeverEnding Story.

I remember being around 5 or 6 at a friends’ house, parents just left all the toddlers in the playroom in front of the movie and had their social gathering, meanwhile I’m terrified and hysterically crying my eyes out (I’m sure at least a couple of the other kids were too, but I can’t remember)…
Artax in the swamp destroyed me completely, and the Darkness and the Sphynx statues, and even Morla scared the living shit out of me (yes, they left us there to watch the entire movie).

I still can’t bare to watch the swamp scene.

That scene was absolutely horrifying to watch the first time I saw the movie and I must have been in my mid-late teens at that point…

Someone put it on at a slumber party before I could see what it was (definitely wouldn’t have stuck around if I knew what was coming). It kept me up for months and months, and intensified an already existing phobia. It’s like 30 years later and I’ll still occasionally wake up in horror from seeing huge spiders in my dreams…

Was waiting to buy coffee and the staff had clocked a homeless guy trying to shoplift a small packet of crisps and kicked him out, so I left without buying anything and gave him £20 instead.

I rarely leave the house, but when I do I make it a point to always give some money to folks I come across who are having a rough time.

The beauty of kbin/lemmy is how easy it is to block content you don’t want to see, so either block the users who mostly post doom, or the news/politics communities as a whole. If you then still want to scroll news for a limited time, browse in incognito or from a secondary account ¯\(ツ)/¯

If you don’t see the threat, or active existence, of fascism in your country (it sure as fuck is already here in the UK), that’s not because it isn’t there, it’s because you’re not looking hard enough (or at all) past the bare minimum they’ve provided you (health care! yes, defunded in to uselessness. Not one, but several have used their “inceldom” in their manifestos before going on mass shootings (often targeting, or trying to target women exclusively) and many other shooters were active members of incel forums (and many active incel forum users who still haven’t gone on a shooting spree openly talk about going on one).

I will strongly second whenigrowup356 - stay as far away from these people and their spaces as possible, they are toxic violent terrorists, and you should not only not want anything to do with them, but also not let them convince you to feel sorry for them, because as opposed to what they call themselves, the state they are in is anything but “involuntary”.

I think is wrong.
The whole problem is that the patriarchy absolutely teaches (especially white) men that women are objects, and that men are entitled to women and sex (but that only virginal women are worthy of marriage).
Some men unlearn this shit early on, some remain “neutral” assholes (those who will end up abusing but aren’t doing it consciously out of ideology, but still from the same sense of entitlement), and some take the entitlement to the extreme and adopt it as their ideology and way of life, but I think it’s really fucking important to highlight that they are in fact not taught anything different by society before that point, they just take their entitlement to another level once they’ve found others to confirm it for them.

Either way, the name is a complete misnomer - they aren’t “involuntarily” celibate, they are celibate because they actively refuse to not be walking entitled pieces of shit.

Why? The people left on there are the ideal target audience for propaganda, plus if it gets them clicks (=money) which is what they’re in the business for, why would they walk away? Expecting ethics in journalism under capitalism is futile (sure, individual ethical journalists exist, but they aren’t the ones we’re talking about nor do they represent the industry).
