Lemmy’s databse schema was updated for 1.0. I hope that will address many of the performance problems. It’s due to release soonish. The beta is just around the corner.

I’ve made an update script that tries to run the migrations and index updates in one go.

The updater itself is by far the slowest of the three commands. I think downloading the new version into a different folder and just moving apps and files over would be much quicker. But I haven’t had the time to look at potential errors with that method.

Some packages recommend other packages that are not really dependencies. Do you use apt? I think it has a --without-recommends flag or something similar.

Already exists at lemmit.online. Many servers block it because it’s annoying. I use it to keep track of niche communities I left behind.

The game is DRM free. Nothing is stopping you.

Automatic upgrades handle the security patches. Everything else maybe once a month. My big services like Nextcloud auto update as well.

The only thing I hated about the new one was that the whole “they have a plan” thing was bullshit. Really stupid of them to write that into the series without even having a vague idea about that plan.

Original or the new one? I actually loved the new one. Haven’t watched all of the original yet.

But I loved how it was incorporated into Dharma & Greg. They wanted to use it to have sex in public because everyone in the US would be busy watching the Seinfeld finale. Every so often they’d glance at a TV screen, chuckle, and say “That Kramer!”

That’s actually all I remember about it. Don’t know if I ever even saw the actual finale.

Even worse, he got a shitty movie after that.

Which actually had a kinda nice ending in Justice League Unlimited.

The really insidious thing about this comment is that I now have the damn song stuck in my head again. It took years for me to get it out the first time.

The streams are not the problem. Sometimes with content that was especially hard to find I’d grab the URL to the stream and download it via curl.

The problem is getting there. You have to navigate through treacherous sites with dubious “Stream now” buttons that bring even the best ad blockers to their limits. With myriad “sorry your stream is in another castle” and CAPTCHAS so complicated they could summon Cthulhu.

I think op doesn’t want to navigate that shit with a remote keyboard and mouse and would rather have a nice interface that hides all that shit.

There used to be plugins for that. Don’t know if they still exist. But they broke at least once every other year with a short period of uncertainty until a replacement was found.

Sometimes you’d need a companion app to solve CAPTCHAs. And when you just about settled in comfortably everything broke again.
