Okay so I read the comment, (is that witch hunting), and I agree with them. You’ve gone around being very negative about gaming, and are upset that someone called you out for being negative? Do you see the irony there? You’re allowed to have negative opinions of course, but if all gaming makes you annoyed then maybe it’s time to just disengage from the gaming communities. Not everyone has to like everything, but purposefully being in a community just to shit on everything doesn’t make you the hero.
I have no idea why you brought up AI at all, unless you’re admitting you’re using AI to write your comments which other people seem to assume you are. Which… k, weird, just write your comments, don’t know why we need anything extra.
In short, you can’t be mad when you’re being negative everywhere and then people call you out for being negative. If you want a more positive experience then… just be more positive.
I’m personally a person with no party at this point. Democrats don’t represent my views, they were just closer, but there’s no one who does who runs at a national level
“cripple your brand new shiny computer, why would you do that, you’re an idiot for turning this off”
For most of you suggesting hosting a repository - yes but,
Host forgejo. Just host the git mirror. It comes with a package repo out of the box. Then you have the source code and the docker images
Oh sorry, I got so hyped about chairs I completely missed that part
Same as you. Trust me when I say this is the best chair I’ve ever used. 5 years on and still a solid chair.

Gaming chairs are scams. Overpriced and just have fancy colors on plywood. Get a solid officechair. They make their chairs sturdy and ready to have someone sit in them for 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
Mesh is another huge +1, this chair keeps you much cooler. People think they want leather or something. No, it gets too hot, and if you’re sweaty at all it’s sticky, and they don’t last well. A solid mesh keeps you cool, supported, and your bony ass can sit comfortably for long periods of time. (Just remember to stand up every once in a while, for health)
Generally there are not LLMs that do this, but you start building up a workflow. You speak, one service reads in the audio and translates it to text. Then you feed that into an LLM, it responds in text, and you have another service translate that into audio.
Home Assistant is the easiest way to get them all put together.

Edit agree with others below. Use the apps that are made for it.
I know me too, I love it here don’t get me wrong, but literally anyone can host an instance. GDPR is great overall, but it doesn’t cover when you blast your data to N number of other servers. There’s no clawback, and even then like we both said, there’s nothing stopping a 3 letter agency for listening and just ignoring the delete request. I love it here, but I’m not going to just give out private info either. If you want encrypted messaging, go to Matrix
This post is written as if there’s only one “community”. Why does there need to be a primary? I’m here and I’m happy. If I have questions I search online or ask here, same as any other community
It’s very hard to convince people that fedi is a healthy place when the default servers are incredibly toxic. I wish they would at least advertise it as such, maybe hide the default from the number one spot. There are several servers up there that accept users that are way more chill.
Also for new selfhosters making it easier to say “these are some problem instances that are commonly blocked, if you want to start out with them”. I know that starts a new problem of “but then who decides” and it causes more splintering, but for a lot of posters it’s overwhelming the firehouse of vitriol that comes in at first.
The fediverse is different than online social media. You have one server who has the data yes, but you are essentially blasting out all of your opinions across the entirety of the fediverse, where anyone or any entity can have a listener. There are no deletes either, meaning that whoever is listening does not have obey the delete request.
We have our open world free from takedowns and corporate, but the tradeoff is privacy. Expect anyone to be listening
I had a friend who I was close with for many years, she always had high aspirations, talked to me almost daily about all of the things she wanted to do. Things were like having large career aspirations, moving to a big city, seeing the world, traveling.
Then she got married, and bought a house 15 minutes from her parents, and had 3 kids, all within 5 years. Her career is a standard midwest white woman job and her travel consists of visiting family one state over and going to Disney World once every 5 years or so. We drifted apart, I did end up moving to a big city, I chose a career and travel over having kids, but I think about her every once in a while.
Were those choices hers? Were they compromises? Did society pressure her into a certain life, or did she truly want to change her life for it? Were the things she talked about just dreams, or did she not believe she could accomplish them. I don’t feel pity or anger, but I do wonder why she made the choices she did. I guess I hope she’s happy and that she lives her life without regrets. Everyone who chooses that life says adamantly they never regretted it, but do they really mean it? No regrets at all?
Mass Effect 1 Noveria
Seconded with Matrix. All I’m wanting for it is for someone to make a Discord/Revolt UI frontend for Matrix 2.0 and it’ll be a drop in replacement
And then Sutler will do the only thing he knows how to do
That’s the funny thing, on paper his policies work out quite well for myself. I just have this stupid thing where I care about what happens to other people. If I could turn that off then it would be great! Instead I voted to, you know, help the poor, help those in need, to minimize inequality. They apparently voted to give me tax cuts. It’s honestly insane, did they really think he was going to help them?
Good! I’d be sad to see you folks leave
Man I feel you there. The apathy is real. I feel for those who are innocent who are really going to be hurt by this. I’ve stopped caring about anyone who voted for it. You’re on the lower income but can’t afford food? Too bad he’s coming for food stamps. Bootstraps. Grandma needs Medicaid but voted red? Sorry grandma, better get a job.
For all those who truly voted to try to save these things, my heart goes out to them. The rest though, it’s going to be painful.
The ironic thing is that they did it all to own the libs. The thing is though, the vast majority of “libs” I see push for these programs for others, not themselves. But these people can’t even comprehend that we want to help people and assume we want free stuff. All the while it’s them that we were probably helping the most. It’s absolutely asinine
