  • Man I feel you there. The apathy is real. I feel for those who are innocent who are really going to be hurt by this. I’ve stopped caring about anyone who voted for it. You’re on the lower income but can’t afford food? Too bad he’s coming for food stamps. Bootstraps. Grandma needs Medicaid but voted red? Sorry grandma, better get a job.

For all those who truly voted to try to save these things, my heart goes out to them. The rest though, it’s going to be painful.

The ironic thing is that they did it all to own the libs. The thing is though, the vast majority of “libs” I see push for these programs for others, not themselves. But these people can’t even comprehend that we want to help people and assume we want free stuff. All the while it’s them that we were probably helping the most. It’s absolutely asinine

  • Okay so I read the comment, (is that witch hunting), and I agree with them. You’ve gone around being very negative about gaming, and are upset that someone called you out for being negative? Do you see the irony there? You’re allowed to have negative opinions of course, but if all gaming makes you annoyed then maybe it’s time to just disengage from the gaming communities. Not everyone has to like everything, but purposefully being in a community just to shit on everything doesn’t make you the hero.

I have no idea why you brought up AI at all, unless you’re admitting you’re using AI to write your comments which other people seem to assume you are. Which… k, weird, just write your comments, don’t know why we need anything extra.

In short, you can’t be mad when you’re being negative everywhere and then people call you out for being negative. If you want a more positive experience then… just be more positive.

  • It’s very hard to convince people that fedi is a healthy place when the default servers are incredibly toxic. I wish they would at least advertise it as such, maybe hide the default from the number one spot. There are several servers up there that accept users that are way more chill.

Also for new selfhosters making it easier to say “these are some problem instances that are commonly blocked, if you want to start out with them”. I know that starts a new problem of “but then who decides” and it causes more splintering, but for a lot of posters it’s overwhelming the firehouse of vitriol that comes in at first.

  • I had a friend who I was close with for many years, she always had high aspirations, talked to me almost daily about all of the things she wanted to do. Things were like having large career aspirations, moving to a big city, seeing the world, traveling.

Then she got married, and bought a house 15 minutes from her parents, and had 3 kids, all within 5 years. Her career is a standard midwest white woman job and her travel consists of visiting family one state over and going to Disney World once every 5 years or so. We drifted apart, I did end up moving to a big city, I chose a career and travel over having kids, but I think about her every once in a while.

Were those choices hers? Were they compromises? Did society pressure her into a certain life, or did she truly want to change her life for it? Were the things she talked about just dreams, or did she not believe she could accomplish them. I don’t feel pity or anger, but I do wonder why she made the choices she did. I guess I hope she’s happy and that she lives her life without regrets. Everyone who chooses that life says adamantly they never regretted it, but do they really mean it? No regrets at all?
